Learning outcomes on track
The Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR) and its sister organisation representing the university colleges (VLHORA) were asked to prepare a definition of learning outcomes for a broad range of academic and professional programs. In the pilot phase of this project activities focused on the disciplines Construction / Engineering and Communication. The learning outcomes developed for both disciplines were validated by the accreditation body in the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO). The results emanating from this pilot study will be an important input for the next phase of the project. This fase is oriented towards the higher education programs of universities and university colleges that will be affected by the restructuration of the higher education landscape in 2013-2014.
Belgian rectors in Vietnam
From april 10th to april 26th a delegation of rectors from Belgian universities paid a working visit to Vietnam resulting in a memorandum of understanding between Belgian and Vietnamese universities. The Flemish rectors wish to strengthen the academic tools used for this kind of cooperation and will create new initiatives related to credit exchange, joint degrees, doctoral schools and technology transfer.

VLIR reflects on transition towards higher education
All too many school leavers are confronted with disappointment and failure during the first phase of higher education. These transition problems cause significant damage for the students and their family, for the institutes offering higher education and for society as a whole. The universities therefore developed a strategy paper aimed at inviting all stakeholders to reflect on their proposal and to elaborate the operational tools that can facilitate the transition between secondary and tertiary education cycles.
